Achievements

Andrew receiving Award from Federal Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP. 2010 – Awarded The Learning Difficulties Australia Bruce Wicking Award’, Plaque Reads “In recognition of his pioneering work in establishing innovative programs to meet the needs of students with language and learning difficulties”.

The Bruce Wicking Award was presented to Andrew Fildes at the Awards Presentation following the LDA AGM on 16 October, in recognition of the significant contribution he has made through his Foundation to the provision of assessment and treatment services and quality programs which have significantly affected the lives of people with language and learning difficulties and their families in Australia.

2009 - The Foundation Awarded Speech Pathology Australia 2009 - The Foundation Awarded Speech Pathology Australia – National Community Contribution Award - granted by the Association to recognise outside agencies who have made a significant and valuable contribution to speech pathology profession throughout Australia.

2010 – Received Funding from Australian Government (Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs) – to conduct a series of pioneer pilot projects, and implement Andrew Dean Fildes Foundation Programs in Condobolin and Lake Cargelligo NSW (the top 5% disadvantaged children in the country).

2010 – Australian Government, Queensland Government & Queensland Studies Authority invited Andrew attend QSA Conference on new Australian Curriculum.

Held on 28–30 April 2010 at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Invited to be a participant on Leadership in Education Forum on Australian Curriculum. Also to be guest speaker and to represent on the Curriculum of Children with special needs and be invited to be a representative for people within Australia & Internationally who Language – Leaning Disabilities.
 

2009 - 2010– Appointed Ambassador of Manor Lakes College – Victoria largest College/ Specialist College. Monday 7th December 2009 – Launched Vision of College/ Addressed the School Community during International Disability Awareness Week.

In December 2010 – Manor Lakes College implemented an Award in Honor of Andrew Fildes – Awarded to most improved student. Andrew makes a contribution to this award yearly.

2007 - Minister's Awards Winners National Literacy and Numeracy Week 2007 – Australian Government - Federal Ministers Outstanding Contribution to Literacy &/or Numeracy Award.

Was 1 of 5 people in the Nation - Awarded on 16th August at Great Hall, Parliament House Canberra – Federal Ministers of Education, Outstanding Contribution to Literacy &/or Numeracy Award – presented by the Federal Minister The Hon Julie Bishop MP. First person in the history of the awards to be awarded as a volunteer & the youngest to receive the award.

The awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment, and made a major contribution to the improvement of literacy and/ or numeracy education within the Australian community over a significant period of time, and deserve national recognition for their work. The Australian Government provided prize money to each award recipient so they can undertake projects which will improve literacy and /or numeracy outcomes.

2006 - Selected as 1 of 3,500 Australians to be a Queens Baton Relay Runner for Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games (Andrew carried baton in his home town of Mentone
– day 37 –2nd March 2006).

2005 – Winner of Tattersall's Award for Enterprise and Achievement.
(Awarded 2005 September).

 

Medal Presented on 24th May 2003 – by Anna Burke MP – Federal Member of Chisholm.2003 – On behalf of the Queen of Australia and the Governor General of Australia the Prime Minister recommended Andrew to be awarded a Centenary Medal (part of the Australian Honours System) for his distinguished contribution to Australian Society through his outstanding service of establishing a Foundation, and for increasing community awareness of Language-Learning Disabilities.

2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 - held a ARC (Australian Research Council) linkage grant funded for over three years to support 2 full time research staff to do work with the foundation with its programs.

The title of this project is “Assessment and treatment for developmental disabilities, based on neuro scientific theories for information processing”. This project links the Foundations work on Language-Learning Disabilities with researchers at Swinburne University and La Trobe University.

2001 February - Speech was delivered by Andrew D Fildes in honour of being the 18th Stanley L. Martin Memorial Orator at RMIT for Australian Institute of Radiography’s Victorian Branch Professional Graduation Dinner.

2001 - Winner of the National Australia Day Council, Year 2001 Young Australian of the Year Award in Community Services for Victoria. (Awarded November 2000).

2000 – 2011 – Prize sponsored by the Andrew Dean Fildes Foundation Award for Language Learning - Disabilities Awarded to a La Trobe student in Speech Pathology who completes the best research paper related to language learning disabilities.
 

2000 - 1 of 9 organisations to receive a grant and honoured as Queens Trust Achievers Award from the Foundation for Young Australian’s (formally known as Queens Trust for Young Australians) - Presented by the Governor of Victoria – Sir James Gobbo at Government House on 18th July 2000.
